Peter's 3rd Birthday

August 22, 2022

Peter is officially 3. It dawned on me Jack was 3 when Peter was born and now here we are as little kids. I am so thankful for their brotherhood. I would have never predicted brothers could be so tender and kind to one another and then suddenly be pinching and biting all within 10 minutes. But alas they're my boys and I love them so.

Because July flies by with all. the. things. (birthdays, cabin trips, anywhere but inside) I am sharing Peter's birthday post a month later than I hoped, but hey it's here. ;)

The cutest little request for a Popsicle Party on his actual birthday with a piñata.
So we done did it. And the birthday boy loved every second of it.

As tradition for our family... the birthday interview! I was jazzed Peter could finally take part in this since he's able to share his answers with us, even though they are highly repetitive and silly (looking at you "Mario" for everything).

7 Years of Marraige

August 8, 2022

 August 8th.
Still a hot and humid day.
Still laughing together.
Still forgiving one another.
Still growing more in love.

I believe wedding anniversaries are a big reason to celebrate. As Tim Keller says in his book, The Meaning of Marriage:
"This is the reason that marriage is so painful and yet so wonderful is because it is a reflection of the gospel, which is painful and wonderful at once.”

It's no cake walk. It's a lot of hidden, hard feelings/conversations/moments which can feel defeating when measured against a world that showcases their highlight reels. That's why we remember. We celebrate. Marriage is the long-game. Not a fleeting feeling or a falling in and out thing. It's a choice. It's a reflection of the covenant God made with us.

So we remember what our first Love gave us so that we can freely give to each other from the Love-well that never runs out.

Cheers to 7 years, bby cakes. XO

Q2 Book Review 2022

August 1, 2022

Summer is a beautiful thing. The long days and warm weather. The impromptu plans and ice cream sundaes. Being refreshed by the pool and fruit that is so sweet it tastes like candy. I am at the point in summer where those marketing geniuses are making me look forward to fall a bit too much, but I am here to claim I am not going to rush through the last of summer. These are the days, friends. The here and now.

I've been a touch MIA on here, but that's not to say I've been MIA off the screen. Summer has been full of all. the. good. things. So much that I think I swung the fun-pendulum too hard to one side that I am feeling the need for slowness and rhythms. Earlier this year I gave space for sabbath in my week and I can't look back. Stopping and delighting in who God is one day of the week is the rest I need. And you know what I loveee to do on my sabbaths? Read.

Buckle up, baby. We've got some good ones from April, May and June.

When Strivings Cease. I really love Ruth Chou Simmons. Sure I don't know her personally, but I consider some woman who do their kingdom work to the world as personal mentors. This book will mentor you. Ruth uses some stories from her life to show how easy it is for us to miss out on who Jesus is and how much we burn ourselves trying to be the heroes of our lives and others. Culture yells at us daily "you're enough" but this book is a gentle reminder that only Jesus is enough. Looking for
rest? Let Ruth speak God's truth as a balm to your weary, striving heart.

Where The Crawdads Sing. Okay, I know I'm behind the 8 ball on this one because this was a hot book like 2 summers ago. However are we surprised at this point that I read the book because it was about to be released as a movie? It's becoming quite my jam. Ok real talk, I didn't love it but didn't hate it. It was a slow burn. Like the ending brought it home for me, and I did think about different aspects of the book after having read it. But the movie? Oh my word it was so good. Most books turned movies fall flat but this was a winner.

The Summer I Turned Pretty (series). Are we laughing yet? Are we catching on? This also became a TV series this May so naturally I read the whole 3 book series. This was the perfect series to kick off summer with. A total young adult read but that's kind of my fiction wheelhouse so I didn't mind one bit. The series also has major Kissing Booth vibes but with a twist. There are two families who are best friends turned family and they stay at the Fisher family's summer home on the east coast. The plot was basically any Taylor Swift song, which is a beautiful thing. ;)

The Newcomer. This book wasn't shabby. Can't say it was my favorite but not mad that I read it. It's a mystery that leads the main character in hiding from her deceased sister's ex. What she thought was hiding turned to be an unraveling to who her sister really was and why she ended up dead. It was sweet to see how the characters evolved and how they came around the sister as she fights back for her life. These mystery books keep me on my toes and the ending was the perfect bow.

You can catch me soaking up the remaining drops of summer this month. I'll share what we've been up to on here-- stay tuned!
