We are SO ready for warm weather over here so shopping for these items makes me giddy! Our yearly staples are bubbles and sidewalk chalk. Jack is getting a new swim suit this year, and both boys are getting themselves a pair of slip on shoes that are perfect to get messy. Since boy moms don't get to have as much fun with clothes it's a real thrill to find cute accessories like these ball caps with their initials. What I am most excited for is filling some eggs with a batch of homemade play-doh. I am going to include drops of essential oils like lavender, geranium, and lemon. Ah, bring on the smells of spring!!
One of my favorite ways to incorporate the story of Jesus into our Easter basket tradition is putting the baskets in their room the week of Easter. Then we go out and grab a couple rocks from outside and put them in our basket. With each rock we share where we've recently messed up or made bad choices, however we keep this super simple so Jack can try and grasp the idea of sin. Then the night of Easter we secretly take their baskets and fill them up with all the goods, because God's goodness is coming! On Easter morning we have a blast finding our hidden baskets full of fun things. This helps us point to how God takes our brokenness (the rocks) and gave us the greatest gift, Jesus.
We gave this a try for the first time last year since Jack was at an age where he could follow along, but I really think the key to traditions and hoping for kids to know Jesus is consistency. Am I expecting my 4-year-old to grasp sin? Ha, no. But I wonder what this will tradition will do to his heart over time. What questions he'll ask we continue to share.
Here's to hoping your Easter is filled with lots of Reese's eggs and a warmth in your heart knowing you are dearly loved. XO
