Peter's 2nd Birthday

July 27, 2021

We rounded up our July birthdays with Peter! This kid loves birthdays. His favorite song? Happy birthday, hands down. He props himself up at the dinning table on any random given day, sings HBD to himself, following a self-instructed statement to "blow the candles," and a round of applause to close it out. He's ready to party.

And party we did! If you have a kid there's a great chance you know of Bluey. The cutest kid's show for this generation by far. I mean the grannies episode can win any age over. They are hoots!

We threw a bluey-themed pool party at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Considering putting on my resume: "birthday card enthusiast". Loved designing this up for my little bud.

Honest Juice ad? Or just a couple of kiddos being real cute?

This kid is TWO. It feels right but it also feels like Jack was two... sigh.

Peter is our sour-patch kid. The sweetest boy who asks for cuddles and snugs. And right when the love is abounding you find him trying to bite your arm... It's a wild ride loving this one. ;)

He is a big helper and is willing to lend a hand when asked.

If anyone leaves the room Peter will make sure to question your whereabouts at least 100x's over. "Where'd Jacky go?"

He loves dogs. Scratch that, he's obsessed. I genuinely think he thinks he's part dog. He will pant, whine, crawl, eat and play like a dog.

He is funny. This one has a different humor from Jack. Jack is witty and Peter is just a straight goofball. He beats to his own drum, and he has this swagger when he dances that makes me smile.

Love is staying up until 1am to draw and color a pin-the-tale on Dad. Mark Nowicki you are one special guy.

I love being your mama sweet boy. Celebrating you is a joy.

Simple Summer Smoothies

July 26, 2021

Summer and smoothies go together like floating in the pool on a hot day. Purely refreshing. And, bonus, good fuel for our bodies. I have been rotating between 3 different smoothies, and each are delicious in their own way. When I whip up a smoothie I eyeball everything. No time for measurements, my friends.  Trust you gut and add a little more of what you love and subtract what you don't (or don't have on hand). Smoothies can be so versatile that's what makes them simple and fun.

I've been loving Kelly Leveque's guide to making a fab four smoothie. Her smoothie formula suggests 1 serving protein + 1 serving fiber +  unlimited greens + 1/4 c fruit + 2 tbsp fat + liquid + superfood to best optimize our immune system.

But remember... I don't measure ;) So enjoy keeping it simple and keeping your body/mind healthy and happy because you just made a delicious treat.

Green Goodness
Handful of spinach
1 Frozen banana
Half of a honey crisp apple
Couple scoops of plain greek yogurt
Tablespoon chia seeds
Unsweetened almond milk (or sub water)

Wannabe Chocolate Shake
Half frozen zucchini
Half frozen banana
Spoonful of peanut butter
Tablespoon of flax seeds
Unsweetened almond milk

PB&J
Handful of spinach
1 Frozen banana
Handful of strawberries
Spoonful of peanut butter
Tablespoon of flax seeds
Unsweetened almond milk

Dump your ingredients in and blend.

Surprised to see zucchini in one of the ingredients? I was hesitant too! Thanks to my flourishing garden I figured I have nothing to loose, and I was so surprised. The texture and flavor is smooth and well blended.

Happy sippin'!

Utah: Part One

July 12, 2021

Buckkkkkle up, ya'll! This vacation was one for the books and I am excited to share it with you. Never did I once think "let's go to Utah for a vacation," but I am so glad my friend, Rachel, did! Everywhere I looked I couldn't fully grasp the reality of what I was seeing. It felt fake, like a set-up at Disney World.

See what I mean?

First stop: Las Vegas, baby.

None of the boys have experienced the strip before so we knew this was a non-negotiable, especially since they've become quite the gamblers due to sports betting opening in Michigan. ;)

It's so good to see cities hopping with people again.

The desert is a dreamy place; Zion National Park was no exception. We started with angel's landing, then followed it with riverside walk to the entrance of the Narrows, and finished with the lower pools.

^ The colors. The hazy light. The mountains jutting in all directions. Hello, creation. You're remarkable.

I can't wait to share part two with you soon! Next up: Bryce Canyon.

Twenty Eight

July 6, 2021

My favorite part about birthdays recently is watching my little dudes celebrate in their own way. Peter loves singing happy birthday and brought a toy-kitchen "cake" while wearing an oven mitt (I melted on the spot) to me so we could sing. And Jack loves finding and gifting silly birthday cards so we can laugh while reading it. I love being loved by me people. They are a joy. Yes they're still emotional little rascals, but joy isnt bound by the tidal waves of emotion. Joy is squeezing the good out of life if we have eyes to see it.

And today on my 28th birthday I want to remember and share 28 joy-filled memories/milestones/moments that I am grateful for!

1. Visited 3 national parks-- Garden of the Gods, Zion and Bryce Canyon
2. Mark and I being so antsy to watch the next Marvel episode together (so many good ones this past year!)
3. Planted my first ever garden
4. Watching Jack jump off the diving board for the first time
5. Monthly convos with some fab ladies I mentor took on to be their personal cheerleader (the best kind of mentoring!)
6. Became a monthly book reader
7. Friendships have grown deeper and richer
8. Learning how to dream for myself
9. Leaning into my season versus resisting it
10. Seeing the kid's learning to know and love Jesus in the everyday moments
11. Family movie nights with stove popped popcorn
12. Stopping to smell the roses (any flower really) with my kids
13. Birthed this blog into existence
14. Reading the bible in a year for the first time evaaaa
15. That first sip of latte each and every morning
16. Jack finding his way into our bed almost every single night (love the cuddles though)
17. Learning to slow down and savor moments versus capture them
18. Discovered a love for kickboxing
19. Making vacation recap videos
20. Playing any and all Tay Swift song on the guitar
21. Dance parties requested by my kids
22. When Peter randomly says "Whoop there it is"
23. Splashing in Lake Michigan with Jack and Mark
24. Discovered my love for the local library (new books every season on the kids shelves)
25. Picnic lunches outside
26. A 3 hour spa day that felt like heaven
27. Sharing late night bowl of cookie dough or brownie batter with my main man
28. Seeing gratitude transform my heart

Of course there are many particular moments that could easily make this list! To reflect and see the good woven through life is a gift in itself. Here's to another year of being awake to the wonders each day beholds. xox
